This was reported to be the result of a family feud. The fire. which started at mid-day originated in the timbers used in the roof. The cost of rebuilding the house was prohibitive at an estimated £333,000 at the time. Therefore they built a small house adjacent to the ruins, which were finally demolished circa 1980. Roland Richards was the last of the family to live in the house. He died in 1935. He was followed by J.L.N. Richards, his sister Essie, and his mother, who lived in the tack room and later the new dwelling. They all left together in the 1960s Roland Richards left £6185. He left £100 to his housekeeper Bridget Leary and £50 to his servant Martin Leary. (Irish Independent 29 May 1935.
