Also at Oxford, Trinity College (Alumni Oxonienses page 1472 Vigors, Nicholas (Aylward), s. Nicholas, of Old Leighlin, co Callow, gent. Trinity College, matric 16 Nov 1803, aged 17 ; BA 1817, MA 1818, created DCL 4 July 1832, of Old Leighlin, zoologist, a student of Lincoln's Inn 1806, Captain in the foot guards, served in the Penninsular War, wounded at Barossa 5 March 1811, MP Carlow Borough 1832-5, co Carlow 1835 and 1837 until his death 26 Oct 1840. Memorial Tablet in Old Leighlin Church Saacred to the memory of Nicholas Aylward Vigors of Old Leighlin in the County of Carlow and of Catherine Richards eldest daughter of the late Solomon Richards of Solsborough, in the County of Wexford, who departed this life October 26th, 1840 in the 53rd year of his age. With the cooperation of the late Sir Stamford Raffles, he was the original founder of the Zoological Society of London to which he was Honorary Secretary for the first seven yaers of its institution, a member of all literary and scientific societies of Europe, his name will be long remembered to science.
